FAI 5-a-Side Tournament

6th Mar 2025

The boys from Bunscoil na Cathrach along with Mr. O’ Meara and Mr. Cannon had a great day out at Cahir Park.

Bunscoil Red were first out, being coached by Mr. Cannon. Having been behind twice the blue team salvaged a draw against the eventual champions Scoil Naisiunta Na mBuachaillí  of Newport with the last kick off the game from Kacper to send everyone from Bunscoil na Cathrach wild with excitement.

Bunscoil red coached by Mr. O’ Meara got their campaign underway with a tough challenge against St. John the Baptist Red of Cashel. Szymon of 6th class scored for the Bunscoil as they were defeated 3-1.

Bunscoil red’s next challenge was against St. John the Baptist red of Cashel. A great start saw Kacper scoring after 2 minutes. It remained 1-0 until the final 2 minutes when 2 goals in 20 seconds saw the tied flip completely. As hard as they tried and after missing great chances and a shot deflecting of the post and into the keepers hands the game ended in defeat for Bunscoil red.

Bunscoil blue played without fear and put it up to Scoil Ailbhe. Cathal O’Donovan along with Szymon, now playing in goal were superb both defending brilliantly and also keeping the ball out of the net. Knowing that they needed a win, Bunscoil Blue flew into every tackle and played as a team leaving it all out on the pitch. However, they did not have luck on their side and with 3 minutes to go the bounce of a ball and a scrappy finish saw them concede and eventually lose their second match 1-0 the runner up of the competition Scoil Ailbhe.

Bunscoil red finished the day with victory over St. Mary’s National School red team. A beautiful finish at the near post from Gabriel in 6th class saw his side take the lead. With a minute to go it was a level game however in the dying seconds, with a free kick to win the game, Kacper fired home a goal that Cristiano Ronaldo would be proud of. Bunscoil blue finished their campaign of with a 2-1 win, leaving them with 4 points from a possible 9.

Bunscoil blue finished off their campaign of their campaign with a defeat to Scoil Ailbhe. Having played two matches back-to-back, and having used so much energy in their second game, the odds were not in the their favour. Simple mistake and fatigue caught up with them and they suffered a defeat.

But the players represented themselves, their teams and last but not least their school incredibly well. Notable performances came from Kacper (with 4 goals) Szymon, Cathal O’ Donovan and Gabriel, Marius and Jack Peters.

It wasn’t to be for Bunscoil na Cathrach today but Mr. Cannon and Mr. O’Meara were both extremely proud of the boys as the play with passion and energy making the School and everyone associated with Bunscoil na Cathrach extremely proud of our footballers.
